This is a popular and Honda CR-V versatile quasi-off-roader, facelifted for 2010. But while the aesthetics of reform kept to a minimum under the cap that the most significant changes have been made. Most important, and encouraged here, is the addition of an automatic gearbox option for the diesel models. It's a mixed bag. 2.2-liter common rail diesel i-DTEC engine has been breathed on to liberate fractionally more torque and power, and also clean the particulate emissions. This is also smooth and quiet, although like a lot of work has been done to soundproof the cabin as happened in the motor itself.

But while the engine modifications should translate into slightly more agile performance, the reality was disappointing as the motor somewhat hamstrung by a five-speed automatic 'box.

Of the CR-V stuck withdraw it quickly enough, but at the speed A-road and on it just never felt like there was enough power available, no more. At lower speeds without upshifts seen enough to be annoying, while able to feel lethargic kickdown to exceed the higher speeds. Never felt anything short of processed and capable, but lack the spirit.

Economy suffers as well. We strive to better 34mpg on the highway, with figures dropping well into the 20s around town. CO2 emissions 195g/km considerable, compared with the manual's 171g/km variants. Honda took and hid the size and bulk is very good, and more maneuverable, agile and car-like than 4x4 size really have a right to it. Body roll is minimal, but there are a lot of tire noise - not to mention the wind noise on the screen and door mirrors - chassis transmits and bumps and holes in the cabin with a loud voice.

Negative side, CR-V has a quality interior and cabin is a pleasant place to be, while the back seat two full size adults comfortably and a large boot and versatile coupling. In sum, then, all the good things that make a fun and practical day-to-day driving.
