Jurgen joined Porsche Zoellter chief Rolf Frech and development in the UAE team for the endurance test Cayenne hot weather, and its ability to cope with extreme conditions 300ft sand dune known as Big Red.

Off-road capability
Progress has been made to the Cayenne's center and rear locking differential, air suspension, traction control and torque vectoring systems to improve off-road capability over the old car.

Cayenne Turbo models tested can go up and down the Big Red four times, with a 30mph speed rarely dropped below. "You can not do it in Turbo right now," Frech said. "It's going to be stuck, tired or both."

The only problem that occurred in the Big Red is the fifth climb, in which the rear differential is too hot and refused to lock. The Cayenne was allowed to cool for five minutes before it started to rain again and it is a problem that does not care Frech.

"This is the extreme conditions and eventually something had to give," he said. I'm sure some owners of their cars will be subject to such punishment.

"Overall, I am very happy. The car is a big improvement from the last; was finer honed - more than a Porsche than before."

Design
While in the UAE, Zoellter also learn more about the new Cayenne design and mechanicals. Like the Volkswagen Touareg is based on, the Cayenne has been given a complete makeover, while also utilizing Panamera architecture and mechanicals.

Has grown by 45mm on the model came out, this growth occurred 40mm in wheelbase. This is primarily to create more legroom for rear passengers.

The new Cayenne is also heavy at nearly 200kg lighter than the old model. The Cayenne S will have a 2095kg curb weight. Weight loss has largely been achieved by using more aluminum in its construction. This is the most famous in the hat, doors, axles and front bumper.

Model range and new features
When the new Cayenne reach UK showrooms in the summer, three models will be available. This is 296bhp Cayenne 3.6-liter V6, a 4.8-liter 394bhp Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo 493bhp. A V6 diesel model is expected to follow in 2011.

Cayenne Turbo models will be able to solve the 0-62mph in 4.6sec. Old Cayenne's variable-height, roll-controlled air suspension has been maintained, but the low range transfer gearbox has been dropped. Unlike Panamera dual-clutch 'box, the Cayenne a torque converter automatic.

"The PDK system could not cope with high stress, low-speed maneuvers such as crawling rock without being too hot," Frech said.

The Aisin-given the gearbox in the new Cayenne has a shorter first and second gear to improve acceleration and the higher the seventh and eighth teeth highway to improve efficiency.

Cayenne hybrid
Also in 2011, Porsche will add a hybrid Cayenne model range. It will be powered by a 328bhp petrol V6 engine and 34kW electric motor, which should guarantee a good hybrid to 34.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 193g/km.

Frech said the addition of the hybrid Cayenne is necessary because it is Porsche's biggest seller and contributor to CO2 fleet average. But he added that in the range of CO2 emissions fell 23 percent, and three of the five Cayennes able to achieve nearly 30mpg.
