Small Premium Cabriolet of The Mini John Cooper Convertible
Unique to John Cooper Works versions of the Mini is EDLC (electronic differential lock control), which comes into play when the DSC (dynamic stability control) is fully deactivated. When the car accelerates hard out of a tight bend, the EDLC slows the spinning inside wheel to maximise traction. In contrast to the way DSC and DTC work, EDLC does not intervene with the delivery of engine power, meaning the driver is in near total control of the handling. The car’s powertrain is identical to the John Cooper Works hatchback, featuring the same 1.6-litre twin scroll-turbocharged engine, producing 211HP and a maximum of 280Nm of torque with overboost. The generous standard spec includes a bespoke JCW Alcantara steering wheel, sport seats, JCW floor mats and glossy piano black interior. The speedometer, meanwhile, runs to 160mph. Unique lightweight 17in alloy wheels are also standard, shod with run-flat tyres, complementing the extra-large disc brakes and red Brembo calipers. The Mini John Cooper Works Convertible will, of course, be built entirely in the UK – and it goes on sale here from 28th March, priced at £23,470 OTR.
