It's a Polo, equipped with more powerful of two 1.6-liter diesel engine options available. We've tasted 74bhp oilburner; here we drove a little more muscular 89bhp stablemate. Both share a 1.6 diesel engine emissions and economy combined figures of 65.7mpg and 112g/km CO2 resepctively. As we have previously concluded, if not subtle new Polo and diesel engines are not the most comfortable of bedfellows. This engine is vocal, and even in the form of 89bhp is not really flexible, especially around the city, only to feel a strong motor when using the bottom quarter of throttle pedal travel, so you feel like it was working hard to make progress. That is to say, this is the highway for more than capable browser and can return an impressive economy, with mpg figures in the mid to high 50s easily accessible.

This is a test of confrontation between the three mega hatchbacks, VW Golf R, Ford Focus RS and Renault Megane 250.

First impressions

The first thing that strike you when you see the cars together is how they look different, notes Steve Sutcliffe Autocar.

Focus RS courage positive leakage. Looks amazing in a general way, considering that it was also used license plates and tax discs - and £27k price tag.

However, on the way, Renault appears just as flamboyant, even if the overall personality of the marginal or less cartoon and, therefore, a little more elegant.

It's the Golf, however, who seemed the most surprising to begin with because, for a while, seems to be a complete mismatch in addition to two others. You wonder, in fact, even if the right model.

That's what makes this group test so interesting. All three of the large automobile intended to achieve the same results, but they went about achieving their goals in different ways.

Basic showroom trim is the cheapest in the Renault £22,467, followed at a distance by Ford £27,280 and £28,930 VW. Line up the specifications, though, and it was more like £25k (Renault), £29k (Ford and £31k (VW).

So how VW justify the higher price? One, that four-wheel drive, while the other two are front-wheel drive. Two, it's a VW, which is a commodity that is much more difficult to put down the price.

What do they have?

In the case of firearms, Golf's 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder serving up 267bhp at 6000rpm and 258lb ft in 2500rpm, which is sent from 0-62mph in 5.7sec.

Renault's 2.0-liter turbo engine produces 247bhp and 251lb ft That's enough for 0-62mph in 6.1sec - though the Renault lighter faster to 100mph.

Ford is a big-hitter, with a 2.5-liter, five cylinder turbo 300bhp and pounded out 赠 324 ft

Golf versus the rest

In the real world, Golf initially felt defeated comprehensively for pure acceleration. The Megane dropped VW without trying very hard once, and 20-100mph during a sudden explosion at the test point does not exist between the Renault and Ford.

However, out in the usual way, a more orderly state of the Golf R began to make sense. This is not trying to imitate Focus or Megane, and the overall impression of the cabin is that this is a high quality, not particularly held out of the car.

When you pull away, the gap grows wider. Golf R has a smoother, better ride quality than hospitals, and smaller tires produce less road rumble. The same thing applies to Renault, who took a more peaceful but noisy than Ford, but as a place near calm as VW's.

What is not so good on the Golf is a vague gearchange and soft, not related to feel the clutch. You would be wise to eliminate issues with pay and 赠 1305 DSG checkbox.

Conclusion

The Golf R is predictable and very mature in how to handle, but also touches on the usual - strange, considering how sharp the Scirocco R is on the road.

Ford and Renault singing from the same song sheet completely different. They are designed to intentionally burn your fingers from time to time and become much more interesting company as a result.

Which is better between Ford and Renault? The gap is very small you can only see the sun on the other side - the price factor and Renault profit almost become too close to call.

But no doubt, when he opened the road before you, the biggest hospital provides adrenaline thump. Remained the highest among the mega-hatchbacks when it comes to pure driving thrills.

The most economical family sedan you can buy: the new 1.6 TDI Volkswagen Passat Bluemotion. Aerodynamic tweaks, longer directed a five-speed automatic gearbox and a stop-start helps to achieve 62.8mpg and the 104bhp turbodiesel is only 118g/km of CO2.

This is just as vapid as you expect, but it is also one of the least disturbed and most affordable of the eco-special in this class.

The biggest sacrifice you have made in encouraging Bluemotion every day is a five-speed manual gearbox, which requires more work than the six-speed 'box usually found in car of this class, especially for driving around the city. But if it does not attempt either low although Passat 104bhp and 184 pounds ft of torque.

Acceleration is slow, but the torque is spread out enough to offer flexibility in the mid range to make up for slower 0-60mph time 12.4sec. Performance is certainly offered an acceptable compromise for a very good economy to be on many many buyers priority list.

A good-sized 70-liter tank also helps reduce the time at the pump, and in the various tests we managed 800 miles for a fill.

If not the same Bluemotion able and spirited as any other Passat models.

Travel can be noisy over sharp intrusion but otherwise flexible and good cushion occupants.

Cabin noise is acceptable even at highway speed, when the 1.6 TDI engine can prove particularly appropriate to maintain and low revs overtaking ability.

2010 Volkswagen Golf R Hatchback

2010 Volkswagen Golf R

2010 Volkswagen Golf R
2010 Volkswagen Golf R
2010 Volkswagen Golf R
The new Volkswagen Golf R will be released and can be ordered in at the end of the year 2009 in Germany. This Volkswagen Golf R sprints from 0 to 100 km/h – also via all-wheel drive – in 5.7 seconds. On the previous model, the stopwatch stopped at 6.5 seconds. The new model of Volkswagen Golf R puts the 1,000-meter mark behind it in 25.4 seconds, while the already masterful Golf R32 shot past this mark in 26.7 seconds. The Volkswagen Golf R does this even better with the optional DSG gearbox, sprinting to 100 km/h in a sensational 5.5 seconds and requiring just 8.4 litres petrol per 100 kilometres (equivalent to 195 g/km CO2) at the fuel pump.

The TSI’s torque characteristic is just as impressive. By comparison: The six cylinder of the previous model developed a maximum torque of 320 Newton-meters at 2,500 rpm. And that was already remarkably good. The turbo four-cylinder direct injection engine of the new Volkswagen Golf R, on the other hand, transfers 350 Newton-meters torque to the crankshaft, which is also available starting at 2,500 rpm, but it can maintain this peak value up to 5,000 rpm.

The customisation includes new wheels and brakes as well as new bumper designs. In front, three very large air intakes characterise the VW Golf R in the bumper area the louvres on the intakes are painted in high-gloss black, and standard LED strips that serves as daytime running lights are integrated in the two outer air intakes. Also painted in high-gloss black are the two louvres of the radiator grille. Placed on the right side of the grille is the newly designed R logo in chrome. Bi-Xenon headlights, included without surcharge, illuminate the way through the night. On its sides, the Volkswagen Golf R is identified by its Talladega wheels, side skirt extensions in car colour and mirror housings painted in high-gloss black.

Another standard feature on the Volkswagen Golf R is an automatic climate control system (”Climatronic”), “RCD 310″ radio-CD system (4 x 20 Watt) including MP3 player plus dual tuners.

In order to safely bring the increased performance onto the road Sportec also recommends fitting the sport suspension that was exclusively devised for the tuner. Furthermore, a sports braking system is available for those drivers with special sports ambitions.

Sportec unveiled its Sportec SC 200 which is based on the Volkswagen Golf VI 1.4 TSI. From a modest 1.4 litre cubic capacity the masterly electronic manipulation of the Swiss vehicle summons a full 200 PS with a torque of 300 Nm, which lies between 1,800 and 3,000 U/min (VW Series 160Ps/240 Nm by 1,500 U/min). This ensures impressive driving values. The Sportec SC 200 shaves a full 1.4 seconds off the 8.2 seconds taken by the VW Series for the sprint to 100 Km/h and is a full 3.2 seconds faster for the time taken to accelerate to 180 Km/h.
