This is a test of confrontation between the three mega hatchbacks, VW Golf R, Ford Focus RS and Renault Megane 250.

First impressions

The first thing that strike you when you see the cars together is how they look different, notes Steve Sutcliffe Autocar.

Focus RS courage positive leakage. Looks amazing in a general way, considering that it was also used license plates and tax discs - and £27k price tag.

However, on the way, Renault appears just as flamboyant, even if the overall personality of the marginal or less cartoon and, therefore, a little more elegant.

It's the Golf, however, who seemed the most surprising to begin with because, for a while, seems to be a complete mismatch in addition to two others. You wonder, in fact, even if the right model.

That's what makes this group test so interesting. All three of the large automobile intended to achieve the same results, but they went about achieving their goals in different ways.

Basic showroom trim is the cheapest in the Renault £22,467, followed at a distance by Ford £27,280 and £28,930 VW. Line up the specifications, though, and it was more like £25k (Renault), £29k (Ford and £31k (VW).

So how VW justify the higher price? One, that four-wheel drive, while the other two are front-wheel drive. Two, it's a VW, which is a commodity that is much more difficult to put down the price.

What do they have?

In the case of firearms, Golf's 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder serving up 267bhp at 6000rpm and 258lb ft in 2500rpm, which is sent from 0-62mph in 5.7sec.

Renault's 2.0-liter turbo engine produces 247bhp and 251lb ft That's enough for 0-62mph in 6.1sec - though the Renault lighter faster to 100mph.

Ford is a big-hitter, with a 2.5-liter, five cylinder turbo 300bhp and pounded out 赠 324 ft

Golf versus the rest

In the real world, Golf initially felt defeated comprehensively for pure acceleration. The Megane dropped VW without trying very hard once, and 20-100mph during a sudden explosion at the test point does not exist between the Renault and Ford.

However, out in the usual way, a more orderly state of the Golf R began to make sense. This is not trying to imitate Focus or Megane, and the overall impression of the cabin is that this is a high quality, not particularly held out of the car.

When you pull away, the gap grows wider. Golf R has a smoother, better ride quality than hospitals, and smaller tires produce less road rumble. The same thing applies to Renault, who took a more peaceful but noisy than Ford, but as a place near calm as VW's.

What is not so good on the Golf is a vague gearchange and soft, not related to feel the clutch. You would be wise to eliminate issues with pay and 赠 1305 DSG checkbox.

Conclusion

The Golf R is predictable and very mature in how to handle, but also touches on the usual - strange, considering how sharp the Scirocco R is on the road.

Ford and Renault singing from the same song sheet completely different. They are designed to intentionally burn your fingers from time to time and become much more interesting company as a result.

Which is better between Ford and Renault? The gap is very small you can only see the sun on the other side - the price factor and Renault profit almost become too close to call.

But no doubt, when he opened the road before you, the biggest hospital provides adrenaline thump. Remained the highest among the mega-hatchbacks when it comes to pure driving thrills.
