North American version of the latest generation Ford Fiesta was officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show today. On the side of the Atlantic, Fiesta 2011 will be sold as a five-door hatchback and four-door sedan, both of which will be available with one engine, 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol with an estimated output of 119 horsepower and 109 ft.-lbs. torque.

Power is transferred to the front wheels through a standard five-speed manual gearbox or optional, that all new North American industry-exclusive PowerShift six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Ford said they expect that the Fiesta will go back up to 40 mpg on the highway.

"Fuel economy leaders have traditionally been manual shift model," said Pierro Aversa, team leader for the transmission. "Fiesta change the game by offering advanced PowerShift six-speed automatic that provides maximum fuel economy."

Other than some small aesthetic changes involving a slightly different front grille on, the changing shape chrome bumpers and the addition of a large spoon in front bumper incorporating LED lights, five-door Fiesta hatchback are identical relative to the European style.

Meanwhile, four-door Fiesta sedan, change with colleagues that are sold in other markets around the world including North America, Ford's signature three-bar look and new tail lamps are inspired from the Taurus.

"For North America, the global Fiesta was tweaked, not redesigned or re-developed." said Steve Smart, the chief engineer. "We built on the success of the European Fiesta and really proud of how little has changed."

However, due to the fact that when the development of the Ford Fiesta, the original plan did not include North America, companies must redesign the car to address safety, emissions and powertrain issues.

"We had to change some parts. With a value per cent, on the whole value of the vehicle, the number of common parts is between 60 per cent of North America and Europe," Derrick Kuzak told reporters, Ford group Vice President for global product development.

According to Kuzak, the all-new 2011 Focus is expected to be introduced next year, has been engineered for all international markets including North America, right from the beginning. Kuzak told reporters that about 80 percent of parts by the2011 focus will be the same value between North American and European versions.

North American Fiesta hatchback and sedan models will be produced at Ford's Cuautitlan plant in Mexico, with sales in the U.S. scheduled to begin next summer.
