This is the Peugeot 408, which was inaugurated in the Beijing Motor Show last weekend. However, a break with tradition by not being a direct replacement for the 407 repmobile familiar British streets. Instead it's an extension of wheelbase, bustle-back version of the 308 hatchback, intended for the Chinese market where customers demand four-door saloons with separate boots and plenty of space for rear passengers. This PSA is based on the second of three modular platform. Direct replacement for the European 407 will be 508, due next year. PSA will use the largest platform (also used for the Citroen C5 and C6) with a more sophisticated suspension than the 308/408 and the overall length is greater. Peugeot now admitted that he made a mistake by limiting the back room 407 in an effort to boost sales of large MPV.
